Supported Archive Formats
JustUnzip uses libarchive under the hood, which means it can handle virtually any archive format you throw at it. Your files are processed locally in your browser - no upload required, no matter the format.
How Format Support Works
Our tool uses WebAssembly-powered libarchive, the same library used by Linux systems and professional archive tools. It handles compression, decompression, and archive formats natively in your browser - fast and private.
All Supported Formats
ZIP
The most common archive format, universal compatibility
RAR
Popular for large file downloads, high compression
7z
Maximum compression ratio, open-source format
TAR
Unix tape archives, common on Linux/Mac
TAR.GZ / TGZ
Compressed tarballs, standard for software downloads
Frequently Asked Questions
What if my format isn't listed? ▼
libarchive supports many more formats than listed here. Just try it - there's no upload, so you'll know instantly if it works. Most archive formats created in the last 30 years are supported.
Can I extract password-protected archives? ▼
Password-protected ZIP files are supported - you'll be prompted for the password. RAR5 encryption and some 7z encryption methods may have limited support depending on the encryption type.
What about split/multi-part archives? ▼
Currently, JustUnzip works best with single-file archives. For split archives (.001, .002, etc.), you may need to combine them first or use desktop software.
